I'm reading Kelly Fryer's book of the above title. Good stuff!
There's always room for fresh voices, new insights, and she's got them.
While I work with and for Christians of many traditions I'm always happy to tell of my Lutheran faith. Kelly does a great job reworking, retelling this 500 year old story.
I like the 5 guiding principles. I like the way she simply expresses them:
1. Jesus is Lord
2. Everyone is welcome
3. Love changes people
4. Everybody has something to offer
5. The world needs what we have
All important. All true.
Everyone is welcome is one that often gets forgotten, or changed. Too often it becomes 'you're welcome if you're like us!' She shows so well that it was precisely the 'outsiders' that Jesus welcomed in. It took a while for the disciples to catch on - Peter managed it in Acts 10!
I think she's managed to express how radical Martin was in his day - and still in ours.
His 'everyone is a priest' still hasn't caught on very well.
